Probably not a good time to clutter the thread with OT - but I wonder how many people who heard his comments know of the debate on this subject among the scientists themselves. I also wonder if most people know there is a publicly funded "high resolution" genome project and a privately funded "shotgun" approach to the human genome.

I wonder if Frank is aware of the debate regarding patents of business processes on the internet - a debate on which many smart people are on both sides.

Lastly I wonder if he's a big picture sort of guy = somehow I doubt it. If he was he might be wondering how the clash between the religious conservatives that influence the Republicans and the future of genomics and the other "new biosciences", like cloning and human-machine interfaces will play out in the next 20 years. Looking at the big picture, the Republicans will not be a friend of the new sciences whatever their short term political agenda is. Rich
