Mary, Re: I think it is all over. The PC has won

I don't think so. Would you rather watch TV programs
on your PC monitor or a 33" Sony Wega ?

I still think they are two different categories with
no direct competition. There will be web browsing
capability on every TV one day but that won't stop
people from buying more PC and with a rather cheap
tuner card, PC today can already receive TV signals
but those large, luxury TVs continue to sell well.

I think we're close to saying the same thing. The PC is a very malleable thing, in fact, too malleable. I think there will be a very PC-like device that is geared towards broadband (i.e. 2-way as opposed to just broadcast, 1-way) communication.

Right now the TV is not even close, but the PC is too complicated (very hard to maintain). There needs to be a broadband device that doesn't ever require a call to any kind of tech support unless the hardware itself fails. In the end this will be a PC (and supporting software) that's just designed extremely well. But the PC isn't there yet. It's not new technology, just better design of what we've got.

But I bet that the eventual device we see will not look much like the PC that we're currently familiar with, and not just on the surface.

Sony is trying to get there, but I think in the end will just succeed in pushing msft, intc, dell, etc.
