Stain, congratulations on your decision to participate and take action.

You probably won't get any advice here, but I'll be you will get some opinions. I suggest you map out some investment tactics and strategies that you are considering and ask for opinions.

ELON looks like an interesting play here, btw. What are the characteristics of stock that you wish to add to the excitement of ELON?

I would highly recommend Siebel as one of the stocks to look at. Gorilla in CRM tornado yet at the same time on the launching pad for the e-commerce b2b tornado. And their PE ratio is still believable. Plus they makes tons of money. My other 'top' picks are:

NTAP (gorilla NAS), JDSU (king fiber optic components).
More risk by being further to the left of the bell tornado curve... CREE, ELON (WIND is worth looking into as well).

Lots of other great stocks: QCOM (gorilla), NT (prince and soon to be king fiber optics), GBLX (strong prince), ITWO (gorilla).

I hold others but just for 'play' (i.e. trading). Good luck!

Welcome, stainburnt, and thanks for the roses. I'm always flattered when a new SIer's first post is to the G&K thread. And if we have in any way influenced you to consider investing in equities as a part of your plan to accumulate wealth, I'm very proud. You didn't give us much to go on in your profile (like nada), so it's impossible to give a well reasoned response to your question about portfolio mix. In general, Gorillas are the safest investment in high tech, and even Silverbacks strolling down Main Street can provide superior and reliable returns for years and years. If you're in the envious position of having a long investment window, you should probably be more adventurous and include some W*Ws in your portfolio.

My current favorites are,

Silverback Cisco
Gorillas Qualcomm and Siebel
Gorillalet Gemstar
Untyped Elon

I'm sure you'll get good advice from the gang. Once again, welcome.

uf

Welcome to the board!

Ya gotta do your own DD, Stain, as you know. None of us would argue with your choices, I think.

I had a couple of friends with your budget that have started off with QQQ, as a good way to get in on tech, but still get some protection..
