Hi all, I have a very dumb question regarding stock split:

Actually I've had this question for a long time but
never get the chance to clarify.

When a stock is going through, say, a 2-1 split, there
are usually two dates: the date of record and the date
of distribution. For example, on Feb 09, BVSN announced
the 3-1 split and the date of record for that split
is Feb 21 and the date of distribution is Mar 13.

So why do you need two dates. In BVSN's example, its
stock price was not ajusted for 3-1 until Mar 13. But
what about those who bought BVSN after Feb 22 and before
Mar 12? Does it mean these people dont get their shares
split? It seems almost impossible.

If you always get 3-1 split on your BVSN shares as long
as you hold it by Mar 13, why should you worry about
the Feb 21 date?

I am asking this question as CMRC is to split 2-1
and its record date is March 24 but dist date April 19

Thanks.
