""Nintendo's 'Project Dolphin' arrives next year with a broad game library

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VANCOUVER, March 10 /CNW/ via NewsEdge Corporation -- Nintendo's next generation, cutting-edge video game console, code-named Project Dolphin, will feature the largest and strongest library of hit games for any system introduction in Nintendo history when it launches in North America and Europe in the first half of 2001.

Development work on a wide variety of games for Project Dolphin's debut is well advanced. The launch will be supported with a variety of games featuring both Nintendo franchise characters and titles from many leading developers.

"We're building a machine with only one purpose--to play video games," says Peter MacDougall, president, Nintendo of Canada Ltd. "This is what Nintendo has always known best, and what consumers have always wanted most. Project Dolphin's eventual success will come from the combination of Nintendo's dedicated, world-class game designers and our beloved franchise characters-the proven recipe for the world's best interactive fun."

"A 2001 launch for Project Dolphin is not only in keeping with the normal product lifespan for our home consoles, but provides two important benefits," adds MacDougall. "First, it allows the millions of current Nintendo 64 owners to devote their video game dollars to the best lineup of new games in our history-without having to buy a new system. Secondly, the new launch date for Dolphin means that our system will come to market next year with a portfolio of game names across all genres that simply can't be matched by any other company."

During the remaining nine months of 2000, N64 owners can choose from a long list of new, third generation games including Perfect Dark, Zelda 2: Majora's Mask, Banjo Tooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Excitebike 64, Mario RPG, and others.

In addition, this year Game Boy Colour promises to remain North America's number one selling video game system, supported with a total of more than 100 new first, second and third party releases including new Pokemon titles-- Pokemon Gold and Silver and Pokemon Trading Card, as well as games featuring such popular franchises as Donkey Kong, Perfect Dark, and Zelda.

As a wholly owned subsidiary, Nintendo of Canada Ltd. leads the $650 million video game industry in Canada. From its headquarters in Vancouver, British Columbia, Nintendo distributes and markets the Nintendo 64 system, and the portable Game Boy Colour and Game Boy Pocket systems. Nintendo video games are known throughout the world for their superior quality, state-of-the-art 3-D graphics and appeal to players of all ages. Nintendo is dedicated to the long term development of the interactive entertainment industry, devoting its resources towards maximizing the latest technology to create the most innovative interactive entertainment products in the world. Currently, more than one in three Canadian households own a Nintendo system.

I love this action in the market. Terrific to see the Nasdaq declining with the Dow putting in a bottom. It just makes me feel safer for some reason. The Nasdaq will be doing fine very soon too. It might need an official 10% drop first and it is just about there.

Emmo, you're right about the hype continuing. But it sort of is hype on the plus side vs. tough sales environment during the transition. Will the hype give every game maker a 20 PE or better? Will this be a good Christmas season or not? Hard to say. I am encouraged by sales of WM2K and Smackdown. Doing great on "declining" platforms. Nice to be the top 3rd-party GBC publisher too.

As for the shorts I think they hang on for one more year. After that they are likely in trouble.

The Rugrats and Scooby movies might be enough to get THQ back on track, the stock we all used to love.
