So, Intel bought a mini-JDS Uniphase, huh-Giga? Actually, I think JDSU makes the infrastructure connectors, cables, lasers and subsystems. Giga makes chips? Good addition if they can integrate it and sell! The big guns are shopping overseas now some. Cisco bought Pirelli's optical network division earlier this year.

Yes - not a bad performance despite their own missteps in 1999 - as well as the constant obituaries being written detailing their impending death.
