Interliant and Microsoft Team To Bring Hosted Exchange ISV Solutions To Market
Microsoft Invests $10 Million in Leading ASP
PURCHASE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 2000--Interliant, Inc. (Nasdaq:INIT - news), a leading application service provider (ASP), today announced a commercial agreement with Microsoft to develop application hosting services on the Windows© 2000 Server and Exchange 2000 Server platforms. In addition, Microsoft made a strategic investment of $10 million in Interliant. The investment was in the form of convertible subordinated notes.
As part of the agreement, Interliant and Microsoft will work together to develop tools to make it easier for independent software vendors (ISVs) and solution providers to develop more powerful hosted, collaborative applications on the Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server platform. Interliant will also develop and offer services that help ISVs to develop hosted applications for Microsoft's collaboration platform. This agreement builds on Microsoft and Interliant's relationship to build hosted services which extend Windows 2000 Server and Exchange 2000 Server.
Providing ISVs with the tools necessary to develop hosted applications for Exchange 2000 Server will help make Exchange available to a broad range of knowledge workers. The growing availability of managed, hosted application services based on Exchange 2000 Server will enable customers to deploy messaging and collaboration more quickly, and will make such solutions more cost-effective for smaller organizations with limited IT resources.
``Expanding for ISVs the availability of new, high-performance application hosting services based on Exchange is a key component of Microsoft's efforts in this industry,' said Thomas Koll, vice president of the Network Solutions Group at Microsoft. ``Interliant's skills in providing services and technology for the ASP marketplace, integrated tightly with Microsoft products and platforms, create a powerful combination for businesses looking to deploy collaborative applications on the Internet.'
``Collaboration is at the foundation of the new ebusiness economy,' said Herb Hribar, CEO of Interliant. ``By teaming with Interliant, Microsoft is leveraging the undisputed leader in collaborative application hosting services and opening up a new world of opportunity and value for customers and partners. ISVs looking for new ways to quickly and easily deploy applications that support team and process-focused solutions will find new channels and business opportunities driven by Microsoft and Interliant's ASP services.'
