Fed seen adding reserves via overnight system repos
NEW YORK, March 15 (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve is likely to add temporary reserves to the banking system on Wednesday through a round of overnight system repurchase agreements, analysts said.

Dana Saporta, Fed watcher at Stone & McCarthy Research Associates, forecast an average daily add need of $3.5 billion per day for the remaining eight days of the Fed's two-week maintenance period.

A Wednesday repo would supplement a $2.85 billion seven-day fixed system repo from Friday and Tuesday's $3.31 billion two-day fixed repo, as well as $15 billion in repos outstanding from February.

``Because there's so much outstanding and overlapping, today's RP might be a little smaller, maybe a bit closer to $3 billion,' Saporta said.

In early dealings, Federal funds were trading at between 5-7/8 and 5-15/16 percent, above the Fed's 5-3/4 percent target, according to Garban Intercapital.
