Dennis,

I think you're looking at it backwards. You're assuming that 2 companies, MOT and NOK, who have been trying (and largely underwhelming) to get IS-95 CDMA right now for at least 3-4 years are going to forge ahead of QCOM on 1XRTT+ in the span of months? I would never want to preclude the existence of the possibility of some great leap of invention on MOT's part here, but I think the weight of historical evidence leans decidedly towards this being a big pile of hot and chewy, rich and gooey FUDge that will eventually be forgotten in the QCOM enabled reality.

I'll get worried when I see someone run a 1XRTT+ trial, start sampling 1XRTT+ ASICS, details about basestation mods are known, and someone says that it actually works (other than MOT). Even then, someone needs to tell me how this avoids QCOM IPR, otherwise they'll just keep on raking it in. Until then, IMHO this is just a way for MOT and NOK to try and delay 1XRTT/HDR implementation by seeding the operators minds with doubt. It could also be a bargaining ploy in negotiations for any number of future contracts with QCOM. However, as a bargaining ploy, my guess is that QCOM management doesn't fear the reality, only the short term uncertainty it can breed.

Don't get worked up about 1XRTT+ until you see something more than a press release with no delivery dates. I'm thinking about releasing my own press release for 1XRTTdouble plus, which blows away MOT's system. I just can't decide whether or not to include the 2030 delivery date...
