That's probably true, but does not change things much. these companies were being valued as though they Owned the genes that they were sequencing, with all the potential profit that comes with such ownership. Now, they are being looked upon as companies that collect data and manipulate it; a very different perception and profit potential IMO. Companies that Do patent specific genes will indeed reap the benefits. Amgen, biogen, immunex, genentech and others are in this category and are being lifted up today vs. the continued weakness in the human genome stocks and second-tier biotechs.
