Company Press Release
Winstar to Provide Broadband Access to New York Stock Exchange
Winstar to Support NYSE Common Access Point Extranet Service
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 20, 2000--Winstar Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: WCII - news) today announced that it has agreed to support the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) as the only fixed wireless broadband service provider for the next-generation NYSE Common Access Point(TM) (NYSE: CAP(TM)) Extranet network. Winstar will provide the NYSE and its customers with high-bandwidth connectivity, establishing a direct link to the NYSE's business services.

At the launch of the NYSE CAP program, Winstar will offer secure, fully-scalable broadband wireless connections between the NYSE's hosting facilities and the various NYSE customers. Eventually, Winstar will support additional network-based broadband service offerings, including frame relay, ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) and Internet services.

``We are proud to offer another choice to the New York Stock Exchange and its customers,' said Frank Madonna, senior vice president of Winstar's Large Account group. ``The true broadband potential of Winstar's extensive and dependable network will support the critical financial transactions and services of the NYSE CAP program. As a direct provider, Winstar will deploy broadband access rapidly and cost-effectively for the NYSE and its customers and related organizations. Additionally, we provide a natural back-up, which will be crucial in the event of any terrestrial service disruptions.'

``An easy way for us to expand our reach and provide easy access to our customers is to connect to networks such as Winstar's, leveraging customers' technology investments and reducing the time to market for our products,' said William Bautz, senior vice president and chief technology officer of the NYSE. ``It creates a win-win-win situation for all parties.'

Winstar, along with a number of other major terrestrial carriers, will support several new NYSE programs that will be delivered through the NYSE CAP, including NYSE Direct(TM), e-Broker(TM), Institutional XPress(TM), Front End Systemic Capture (FESC) and TCP/IP connectivity to FIX and CMS message interfaces used to send electronic orders to the NYSE point-of-sale via SuperDot©. NYSE CAP also supports existing services such as the remote delivery of the Exchange's Broker Booth Support System (BBSS) and the delivery of customer's proprietary applications to the trading floor.
