I was surprised to hear that VerticalNet isn't strong on the tech/building side, but rather emphasized content and community. They sure had me fooled. Guess they have some pretty good PR. :)

They and a host of others are going to do more than alright in this space though, eh?

vert - i've NEVER been a fan of verticalnet since it was attacking the industry portal space from the content side and doing too many portals with nothing deep in any of them; ariba and commerce one are on the right track, the software side; corporations want edi, not content; procurement and supply-chain management are ALL software driven if you consider the millions of products and thousands of warehouses that ONLY software can track;

corporations themselves are now owning their own "vertical portals" (vortals) as in the car industry example; the stocks to own here: arba, cmrc and orcl are my primaries
