Sounds like they bought Giga for the optical networking capability which is on fire right now. Sounds like more of a backbone capability. It shows Intel wants to own data networking from A to Z. They are involved in everything from wireless, backbone equipment, last mile applications, and Customer premises equipment (CPE). I just don't know when they are going to do something with all of these companies they are gobbling up. I don't follow Intel very close, so I could be wrong. It just seems like I never hear anything about their networking products. Seems like they are in a never ending development stage. As for helping Aware, I don't think it helps because people are already afraid that fiber optics to the home will end up being DSL's demise. All these light switches from Nortel and Lucent, etc. are all the rage right now.
