From the Bull Market Report: MOTOROLA TO USE ECHELON TECHNOLOGY

Echelon Corporation (ELON, $105, up 7) announced that its LonWorks networks and its power line signaling technology are key components of Motorola's (MOT, $151, down 11) new PowerCom System.

Developed by the Motorola Commercial, Government and Industrial Solutions Sector, PowerCom is a system that allows customers to buy power on an as-needed basis and thereby manage their power usage and budgets more
effectively.

Utilities deploying the PowerCom solution provide consumers with LonWorks based in-home display units and smart meters. Customers deposit money onto a smart card at an authorized teller machine and then place the card
into their in-home display unit. The money is then electronically transferred from the card to the smart meter over the power mains.

Signaling between the display and the meter is accomplished over the power mains using Echelon's Power Line Transceivers.

COMMENT: This is so cool and a perfect example of how Echelon's home networking technology can have a practical application in your daily life. Who wouldn't like to have a smaller power bill? There are hundreds of potential applications, just like this one, which could find their way
into your home.
