They have some M&E but it's a task they were not prepared
for during the buyouts. That's why EF is history. Give
them a couple more years & we'll see what they can do.
Not yet, though.

NT is a non-issue WRT Solaris. It's not worth discussing
again."<<

Compaq may be struggling to grow earnings but they are selling a lot of servers that run databases that might otherwise sit on UNIX. There are also a lot of Compaq/NT servers ensuring transactional integrity of those databases in investment banks throughout the world. And Compaq application/web servers are very popular. Things have changed in the last couple of years Cheryl.

There are certainly tasks that SUN aren't losing to Wintel servers but there are many that they have and the cost savings to the customer in those instances are IMMENSE. Both in terms of initial purchase and ease/cost of support.

I think I understood the point you were making about Compaq's indigestion. EF? - u mean EP?

Regarding NT being a non issue and my anecdotal evidence - I must be dreaming about those server rooms I commission with racks of neat inexpensive NT servers and a couple of expensive ugly Sun servers on the floor in the corner. I suppose the view from your programmer's cubicle must be better than mine?
