RE:"I'm convinced that if AMD doesn't switch to SSE by early next year, they will make a swift exit from the desktop CPU business"....

SSE and the implimentation of it should be made public domain, just like the human genome, just to be fair.
I'll e-mail Clinton and Blair.

Scumbria,

re: AMD exit by early next year.

Well i doubt if that will happen.

But one reason that folks don't buy AMD is the fear that it's chip may not be fully compatible.

As Intel pushes this AMD could be at a real disadvantage.

I do agree that AMD will have to essentially support SSE - even if its providing identical instructions that need some simple map to intel SSE conversion.

It adds more complexity and risk to AMD stock ownership and will likely be an issue by end of 2001.

regards,

Kash

Scumbria,

<I'm convinced that if AMD doesn't switch to SSE by early next year, they will make a swift exit from the desktop CPU business. >

Pretty strong statement! Regardless, do you really think AMD would let X-box go if that is the case?

Also, do you think there is much of a chance that AMD will not implement SSE by the time the year is over?

What enhancements are you expecting for Mustang?
