I think the concern is that without some potential for profit, no private enterprise will explore this area. I understand that my genes are not patentable. Just let someone try and ask me to pay a royalty and see which finger pops up. But don't you think there must be some protection for those who invest in research that leads to medical breakthroughs? Who's going to bother otherwise? EP
