Taiwan's key stock index
rose, reversing losses that had put it on track for its worst five-
day slide in almost six years, as the government said it had
started to commit $6.5 billion to buying shares.

The TWSE Index gained 42.73, or 0.5 percent, to 8682.76, led
by Hon Hai Precision Industries Co. The index earlier fell as much
as 4.5 percent to a three-month low. At its lowest, it was down 14

of research at Credit Suisse Investment Consulting in Taipei.
