Petz,

<Chuck, on Boswell's flawed report, when he says, "the company's unit sales have declined 27.0% sequentially," what is he counting? Retail computer sales?>

I have not seen the full report but I think this guy is counting retail sales. Regardless, it seems to me that this guy is totally out of touch with what is going on in the market.

Chuck

NetChip Technology and Microtek International demonstrate World's First USB 2.0 Scanner at the Intel Developer Forum Japan

INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, TOKYO, March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- One year after the announcement of the development of the USB 2.0 specification, NetChip, the foremost developer of USB technology, and Microtek, one of the world's leading scanner manufacturers, have teamed up to demonstrate the world's first USB 2.0 flatbed scanner. Today, the scanner demonstration was shown at Intel's Tokyo Developer Forum (IDF) as a high point of the e-Home track keynote address and in various seminars.

The Microtek scanner demonstration includes the world's first USB 2.0 device technology from NetChip Technology and a USB 2.0 host controller emulator from Intel, using NEC's prototype transceiver.

NetChip Technology is the first company to develop a working USB 2.0 device and the technology was debuted by Intel's Pat Gelsinger, vice president of Desktop Products, one month ago at the IDF in Palm Springs.

"One year after we announced the USB 2.0 initiative, we demonstrated the first USB 2.0 prototype scanner from NetChip and Microtek," said Jason Ziller, technology initiatives manager at Intel Corporation. "Intel is very excited to see this kind of momentum building in the industry for this technology."

"NetChip's target is to enable our customers to be first out of the chute with their USB 2.0 device," said Robert Wong, NetChip's vice president of Sales and Marketing. "We also plan to offer a full development platform along with our USB 2.0 device chips to help companies like Microtek to meet their development schedule and continue their leadership positions".

The speed for USB 2.0 is 480 Megabits per second (Mbps), or 40 times faster than USB 1.1. With the increased bandwidth, a broad range of PC peripheral applications can take advantage of the benefits of USB. These peripherals include fast storage devices, digital video cameras, next generation scanners, high-end printers and high end networking devices. USB 2.0 products will be backwards compatible and able to operate at 480Mbps on USB 2.0 hosts or at 12Mbps on USB 1.1 hosts.

NetChip will release a full line of USB 2.0 chips to meet the various applications with the first chips will be ready for beta testing as early as Q2 2000. Volume production will be available in Q4 2000.
