A suggestion re Paul. Maybe we should all ignore him. I've tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, I don't deny his intelligence, and if someone does not think highly of AMD so be it. But accusing a fellow poster of being a drunk and constantly insulting everyone on the thread is just too much. If we wanted to hear this crap, we would be on Yahoo, not SI. What does the thread think of a boycott of Paul?

Scumbria, I can see the problems. Obviously Intel has tried to make it proprietary and wants it to stay that way. I think they may be painting themselves into a corner? but it will be a large one. If AMD gets a large enough following they will co-exist and their own extensions will be improved over time to match the Intel ones as much as possible. How many authors will write for both? When will the legacy x86 codes vanish? How would programs written solely in SSE work? or would that be doable or even desireable as they would be limited to running on Intel only processors. Of course if AMD had a compiler to automate this they could allow any author to make Athlon programs....seems to me that is a high priority program.
