The centre will engage in a broad range of activities such as capability maturity models (CMM) based software process improvement, and software reuse.

The CCSE has established a strategic link with the Carnegie Mellon University in USA and will be assigned the task of localisation and regionalisation of software engineering products and services in India and the Asia-Pacific region.

The centre will also support the industry through a series of channels including technology transfers and applied research, publishing, consulting, training, seminars and conferences and undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum development in software engineering.

Launching the centre, Mark Scweiker, Lt. Governor Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, commended the efforts of the four partners in achieving the goal of setting up a centre in Bangalore.

Information Technology (IT) secretary, Vivek Kulkarni, in his address, said there was widespread awareness and acceptability of CMM practices in the Indian IT industry creating an ideal business environment to ensure CCSE's success.
