Doug, I have not checked the IP address...don't know where to look. My ISP says they have an inventory of addresses and a different one is assigned from that inventory at each connection. Unless you are operating a server, is there any advantage to having a static address? As I now have the guy in the black hat watching my doorways, it doesn't much matter to me if it is static or dynamic. But if it is dynamic, since file and print sharing is disabled and I turn the modem off at night with the computer, that should allow me to meet at least three of Langa's layers of protection referred to in MM's post...
