News headlines, weather reports, daily horoscopes and real-time stock alerts available anytime, anywhere using wireless service
REGINA, March 16 /CNW/ - Rogers AT&T Wireless and Excite Canada today announced that they will collaborate to offer an extensive range of Internet content services to Rogers AT&T Wireless customers across Canada. Services will include news and information alerts, on-line shopping, banking and brokerage services offered from Excite Canada Mobile(TM). These services will be available to all wireless subscribers across Canada over a variety of devices including Digital PCS phones, Two-way pagers and wirelessly-enabled palmtop computers. "Rogers AT&T Wireless is delivering on its promise to keep its subscribers on the leading edge of the rapidly-evolving services made available through wireless mobility," says Darryl Levy, Vice President & General Manager, Midwest Region, Rogers AT&T Wireless. "As we roll out additional phases, our strategic alliance with Excite Canada means Rogers AT&T Wireless customers can access both Canadian and Worldwide content via the Internet and greatly increase the use of their handsets by receiving information wherever and whenever they want it." The initial roll out will allow subscribers to receive stock alerts, news, weather and their horoscope on Digital PCS phones, Two-way pagers and alphanumeric pagers. Subscribers will have the freedom to select and personalize the devices, information service and delivery schedules via Excite Canada's Web-based user interface. For example, users can instruct the service to send a weather forecast for Regina at 7 a.m., their daily horoscope at 9 a.m., or the closing numbers on stock and mutual funds in a portfolio every day at 5:00 p.m. A rich set of these content services will be available at no cost to all Rogers AT&T customers subscribing to text messaging. Additional premium content will also be available. "Providing Canadians with personalized content and timely information are key to Excite Canada's web strategy and it's a natural extension to link up with Rogers AT&T Wireless to drive this same functionality to its customers from Excite Canada Mobile," says Peter O'Brien, vice president, Excite Canada. "Our users want the web to work for them, and now if your favorite stock dips 10 per cent or you want to know the final score of the Blue Jays game as soon as it's over, you can have that information sent to you immediately, in real-time." Information for customers regarding how to subscribe to these services will be available from Rogers AT&T Wireless in the next few weeks.
