MGI Surges on Sony Deal for Its Image Editing Software
OTTAWA (Reuters) - MGI Software Corp. (Toronto:MGI.TO - news) shook off the technology's market misery on Thursday by adding more than 13 percent on news of a licensing deal for its image editing software with Sony Corp. (6758.T)

Under a world-wide deal, MGI's PhotoSuite and VideoWave image editing software will be included on Sony's new line of digital still-image cameras. Sony's Cyber-shot cameras will be available in May for $500 to $800.

The deal represents between 500,000 and one million units of MGI software this year, said an MGI spokesman.

Shares in Toronto-area based MGI added 13.3 percent or C$4.00 on Thursday morning to trade at C$34.00 on the Toronto Stock Exchange in light dealings of 111,000 shares.

MGI shares have ranged from a low of C$2.40 and a high of C$40.00 this year.

MGI said that data from InfoTrends Research Group indicates international shipments of low-end digital cameras will grow to more than 22 million units by 2003.

The agreement with Sony, which extends an existing relationship, follows MGI's licensing announcement on Monday with NEC Corp. (6701.T)(NasdaqNM:NIPNY - news), Japan's largest PC maker.

MGI is supplying its Pure Diva software, which gives television controls and capabilities to a computer, for NEC's PC/TV graphic cards.

($1-$1.47 Canadian)

Got lots of this one for the long term ..MGI software should be on NASDAQ around May or June (according to CEO --2 weeks ago) N.C.

Sorry for the late reply. I worked blind without QCharts for a while and made 1500 bucks, not bad for a blind person. Bought CEGE at 25 7/8... got apprehensive so I placed a limit order to sell at 27 3/8 banking on the volatility to get me there and it sold... then when QCharts came back on I placed another limit buy at 25 7/8 just for the hell of it... darned if I didn't get it!!! Not bad for a blind man I say... <LOL>

I'm back on line QCharts working and am enjoying recent buys in MCOM, COVD and SEBL... almost bought GNET but did not get the right fill so I'm not gonna chase it.
