the more the Graphics card does itself in its hardware was the less the SIMD's will be utilized.

The task that is done on the CPU is generating the scene description. In an interactive game, there are a huge amount of physics calculations going on to simulate the motion of the objects in the scene. From this, an OpenGL or D3D description is generated, and passed on to the graphics processor.
