A Taiwanese/American fellow I work with who follows events on the island very closely ( and has family there ) thinks the mainland bluster is just that, talk to try to sway the elections.

Remember, last time there was an election on Taiwan the mainlanders shot missiles over the island. This time they're just jawing. Could be thought of as an improvement.
