Australian Defense Department Signs Agreement With Oracle Unit

MAR 17,2000

CANBERRA -(Dow Jones)- The Australian government's defense
department said Friday that Oracle Corp.'s (ORCL)
Australian unit, Oracle Corporation Australia
Pty Ltd., will provide the department with software and
services under an agreement signed Friday.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defense Eric
Abetz said in a statement that the agreement "will give
Defense the right to use Oracle database software and
maintain existing holdings of other Oracle software."
"Defense will also have the ability to purchase additional
non-database software and services under a standing offer
arrangement with substantial discounts off Oracle's
Australian list prices," Abetz said.
The department hopes to make "significant savings" on
software and support costs, he added.
Abetz didn't say how much the deal was worth and a
department spokesman also said he couldn't supply any
commercial details on the agreement.
