HALL OF FAMER SEAVER TO THROW OUT FIRST PITCH FOR METS

(AP) - Tom Seaver will throw out the ceremonial first pitch
before the New York Mets' home opener for the second straight
year. "Last year, he threw out the first ball, and we made it to
the playoffs for the first time since 1988," Mets senior vice
president Mark Bingham said. "Hopefully his luck will continue
this season." After starting the season with two games against
the Chicago Cubs in Tokyo, the Mets open at home against San
Diego on April 3. Seaver, a Mets broadcaster and special
instructor, was 6-0 in Mets' openers. "There is always something
exciting about opening day," the Hall of Famer said. "It was a
special day in my career and it's been a joy for me to come back
and wear the Mets uniform again." In Pittsburgh, Bill Mazeroski,
who missed the Hall by one vote in Veterans Committee voting last
month, will throw out the first pitch for the Pirates' home
opener April 3.
