Auric, everyone makes mistakes. But damn it be a man and admit you're wrong for once in your life! I too short frequently and have had my ass handed to me on several stocks. I shorted Yahoo, and NSOL right after the October 98 tanking. At the time I was convinced that the valuation was absurd and that eventually people and wall street would realize this and bring it down to where it belonged. Guess what? I was wrong. I learned a my first of many good lessons then. I still short, but I try to realize my mistakes sooner rather than be bullheaded or a martyr as I stand in front of the Internut freight train. I still don't agree with a vast majority of the highflying internets, optical networkers, genomics, Palm ipos..... and dozens of other one day wonders' valuations. Because of this, I don't go long many of these stocks, BUT I also know better than to short them. You on the other hand, swear you're smarter than everyone else and only poke your head in here after a bloody day or two in the overall market to say I told you so. Now I'm not saying that ELON won't retrace some of it's gains, but if it does, it won't be on account of it being either a "retail puke stock" or lacking fundamentals, but rather due to fact that the entire market will be in deep sh*&. No matter where it goes from here, since the time you began your almighty prognostications, thousands of small retail investors have doubled their money. YOU on the otherhand have either a) lost your shirt on this particular gamble, b)boxed your position in which case it's been DEAD MONEY for several months or c)gained a few more grey hairs and/or ulcers as you try to justify your logic with insider selling and other reports. The bottom line is that the market doesn't only go up (although you wouldn't know it from looking at a 3 year chart of the Nasdaq)it also occasionally goes down. But to sit there and gloat during those rare occasions that it is in a downtrend are sure signs of a micro-penis/inferiority complex. Regards. Jose. PS. I know you've got much more time on your hands than I do, so that if you intend to start some verbal crusade against me, you'll get in many more pot shots at me than I will at you. It's not my intention to directly insult you. The way I see it is, when I short, I do so without the need to immediately go over to that company's thread and call all the longs there idiots, "retail puke stock morons" or other derogatory names. I'm much happier to sit back and collect the rewards when I'm right, even if I firmly believe that the longs are idiots. For example, I did extremely well on my COMS short from 99, 105, 108, and 110, which I completely covered within a week at $70 flat. But You don't see me telling those who went long COMS that they were idiots.
