Govt source: Deadline for anti-SNB-gold-sale petition Apr 20
Zurich--Mar 16--The official cut-off date for any registered public
opposition to the Swiss National Bank's planned sale of 1,300 tons of its gold
reserves is Apr 20, a government source said Thursday. The 100-day grace period
in Swiss law for launching a referendum against the proposed SNB gold sale
expires then, and it is "highly unlikely" that any citizens' group could raise
the necessary 50,000 signatures in time, the source in Bern said. (Story .13101)

Japan TOCOM's new policy seen dampening precious metals trade
Tokyo--Mar 17--The new policy of Japan's Tokyo Commodity Exchange (TOCOM) to
limit hedging positions of each member and the continuation of freezing
palladium contracts prices are seen further dampening trading interest of
speculators, market observers said on Friday. The measures could prompt
speculators to shift their trading to gasoline, kerosene and rubber contracts,
some said. (Story .12623)
