Hi X,

It was on my watch list, but I don't know much about it.

They have 7 million in cash and access to 41 million in working captial. They don't have a history of Bellcore qualifying any products though. Most of their business appears to be airport baggage detection systems and medical systems.

From Briefing.com

09:10 ET OSI Systems (OSIS) 10 7/8: Traders picking up anything with fiber in the press release: OSIS trading up to 15 1/8 pre-market on announcement that it has developed a fiber optic detector which can achieve 2.5 Gigabit per second data rates.

10:56 ET OSI Systems (OSIS) 22 +11 1/8: --Update-- Daytraders get the CNBC mention they were hoping for and run the stock to new highs; but this one has all the markings of a one-day wonder; caveat emptor.

10:47 ET OSI Systems (OSIS) 18 +7 1/8: --Update-- Have our doubts about whether the 2.5 gigabit fiber optic detector announcement will be meaningful for this company's revenues; but daytraders still looking for all things fiber and
running this stock today.

11:19 ET ******

OSI Systems Inc. (OSIS) 27 1/2 +16 5/8: Momentum players are again being attracted by the prospects being introduced by this provider of optical components as OSI Systems announced earlier today that it has developed a fiber optic detector
which can achieve 2.5 Gigabit per second data rates. Given the interest from day traders to anything related to fiber optics, the announcement has been met with much glee. Mind you, this issue went public in early-October of 1997 and has been a disappointment as a provider of optoelectronic devices and value-added subsystems, despite the much attention and success this sector has enjoyed over the past year.
Management has tried everything to make itself more appealing to investors, including the buy back of shares when the stock traded under $5, but through much of its short-lived history, it has been a single digit stock. Recently, the stock managed to crack the double-digit mark again when in late January OSI unveiled a new line of high-speed silicon photodiodes for use in Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel systems. Since then, the stock has been on the move, in essence, doubling in price in a very short period of time. And while we still have our doubts about whether the 2.5 Gigabit fiber optic detector announcement will be meaningful for this company's revenues, daytraders looking for all things fiber are wasting no time in running the stock up this morning. Not surprising, trading volume has spiked to above 6.5 million, and rising, well above its daily average of 227,000. The surge in volume has allowed this issue to trade at an all-time high. However, we don't think the higher price is sustainable long term as the company still needs to prove that its fiber optic innovation will translate into meaningful revenues. - RN

I like GLW better here. They just announced they will beat estimates. They were given a $250 price target.
