Gays To Protest St. Patrick's Parade

By VERENA DOBNIK
Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK (AP) ? It's a march of thousands, but Rudolph Giuliani and Hillary Rodham Clinton had the spotlight even before the St. Patrick's Day parade.

It's a key event for the two U.S. Senate candidates and it's one dominated again by controversy over the Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization. The group was banned from marching under its banner for the 10th time.

As has become traditional, some planned to turn around and join the actual parade at the risk of being arrested.

And a happy St. Patrick's Day to you, Neocon. What unutterably grisly weather for the parade marchers in New York though. I just read this:

Irish monks were the saviors of civilization

I've heard Thomas Cahill's "How the Irish Saved Civilization" is very readable and fairly accurate. Don't know why I haven't read it yet. An oversight to be sure.

But it begs the question, what have they done for us lately?
