Thanks, you prove Paglia's point that:

If there were any principles left in journalism, at least a dozen high-profile print, Web and TV reporters would have been fired outright or put on probation by now because of their gross mishandling of the McCain boomlet, which they effectively created to disrupt the campaign of Gov. George W. Bush.

And what happened to your former flame, the old maid of the NYTimes? Seems she's turned on her former flame:

On March 8, Dowd wrote a column about McCain, concluding: "His extreme language and offensive tone alienated the voters who once found him exciting. He thought he was showing them his strength, but he was showing them his weakness." This is true - and might even have been interesting if Dowd had pointed it out during the months-long media honeymoon with McCain. But that would have meant bucking the herd, and Dowd is nothing if not a lagging indicator. She, of course, wrote a column about how the temperament criticisms against McCain were unfair, back in November when everyone else was too.

>>McCain doesn't matter? Not what I hear. I hear the Republican poobahs are thinking that come November, although neither man wants it, a shotgun marriage with McCain as VP may be necessary to rescue Junior, the $60 million dollar man. With Clinton/Gore so distasteful, this ought to have been an easy slam-dunk for the Republicans. This is a fine mess you've gotten us into now, Stanley...

I agree that McCain has hurt the GOP by his divisiveness. He gave the Dems a trmendous boost and the Media cheered. But as the Battlegorund Poll shows, McCain devastates the GOP ticket in crucial Caifornia. The bad taste and memory of McCain will fade.
