Hello Goutama,

Re: PC manufacturer Gateway has promised ZDNet that UK customers will be able to get their hands on its Select 1000 PC 1GHz Athlon-based PC by Friday next week.

More great news for AMD!

Re: Intel maintains it is not responsible for the ongoing shortage of 1GHz Pentium III machines in Europe, and advised ZDNet to ask Intel customers why they were focusing on the North American market first. An Intel spokesman said, "the initial focus is in North America, because that is where the largest community wanting these machines is." Asked if he was saying to European customers, "if you want a 1GHz Intel machine, you're going to have to wait three months", the spokesman said, "Yes."

More evidence of the decadence and decay at that other company.

Re: The news is a boost for rapidly rejuvenating microprocessor firm Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)...

The analysts on Wall Street appear to have difficulty doing their homework. They seem unaware of what has happened, what is happening, and what is going to happen. Perhaps the analysts are bound by political interests and obligations of the past. Think of it: Intel playing "catch up"!

AMD is executing extremely well. This is the stuff success is made of!!!

Kindest regards,
CrazyMan

Intel helps fuel demand for 1Ghz processors worldwide and AMD supplies it!

Goutama,

Elmer keeps reminding us that all PIII speed grades run benchmarks faster than any Athlon at any speed. Given the low MHz of PIII, it seems that it is time for Intel to switch to a PR rating. 500 MHz could be PR2000, to make the comparison equitable.

Of course, the impending arrival of Athlon onboard L2 caches will change this, so that Intel will have to derate their PR ratings to below the MHz level ;^))

Intel is learning the side effects of vapor launches in the hard way.

Goutama,

What's interesting is Intel seems to have stopped its promotion of the special edition series....I guess marketing realized that even Intel couldn't pull that one off.

<The news is a boost for rapidly rejuvenating microprocessor firm Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), which beat Intel to the official launch of a 1GHz processor by days, and looks set to outdo its arch-enemy in supplying high-speed chips (900-1000MHz) by a considerable margin. <== BAM! BAM! >

This is what happens when one tries to play the game on the competitiors turf. Intel management moves in accelerating higher MHz vapor launches have been incredibly ill-thought out. These guys still haven't figured out how to play the MHz battle from behind. Good thing the demand is high...
