So guess I just gave you back 2 possibilities.

1. Met someone for more data on her thesis.

This would have been through the Internet or a classmate.

The wrong type of individual may have been attracted to Jim's classes. The subject matter he selected was not what I consider benign.

The wrong type of person may have been encountered on the Internet. If the students did more than surf..ie asked questions..then the likelihood is they were asking questions of questionable characters. If someone is discussing bomb making on the Internet...well it is hard for me to fathom the idiocy of this assignment and those that would have carried it out. It is good that someone put a stop to it..it just may have been too late.

I believe an encounter may have related to class material in some way. However at the late stage of the thesis development I doubt Suzanne intended on making any changes..ie last minute thesis data gathering does not ring true.

I would like to read the thesis.

2. Met up with wrong guy

It is not necessarily out of character for Suzanne. Many people are not who they seem to be. It may have taken a few meetings / phone calls for Suzanne to realize she did not want to continue. The guy may have not taken rejection very well.

If I modify your first possibility slightly then the two scenarios become.

1. Met someone related to the terrorist thesis content or the Internet bomb search exercise.

2. Met up with wrong guy
