"what happens IF some newcomer enters the market, incorporating leading-edge, bleeding edge technology (within its domain of 120-140 American cities)?"

Jim- What are you referring to? If you mean TeraBeam, then Frank, Bernard, dave horne(ouch!<g>), comments on the TeraBeam thread speak of my general opinion too. -MikeM(From Florida)

Re: ALA/NN- Legacy Stuff Again

"Bingo! I had questions at the time of the Newbridge/Alcatel deal, particularly about the viability of buying (and paying a hefty price for) ATM switching technology."

Hi Jim- Did you happen to see the recent ALA and NN announcements? Upon my return from vacation, I was happy to see both companies going strong. It's that good old legacy stuff again.

It sure took a lot of time to evaluate these two but appears to be paying off. A couple of other things that may interest last mile investors, IMO both ALA and NN are well positioned to take advantage of LMDS broadband wireless rollouts. It's not just a DSL play. And to add icing on the cake, good old mobile wireless as an access technology(3G), may become hot for Alcatel too. As I recall, Serge seemed pretty excited about it in the CC I listened to a few months ago.

I have yet to listen to ALA's recent CC, but am looking forward to it and hope to post some notes here. -MikeM(From Florida)
