Re: "Why it is that when an Analyst disses Intel he's a moron (Kurlak) and when he recommends Intel he's hot"

What was it that you bailed out at Jim? $78?

Jim, > Why it is that when an Analyst disses Intel he's a moron (Kurlak) and when he recommends Intel he's hot.

Regardless of his calls, Kurlak's reputation was that he rarely left his office in Manhattan, never bothered to fly into San Jose and look around Silicon Valley. Niles, OTOH, has made some eerily spooky calls on Dell and Intel in the past year or so, they were so close. He's getting his data from somewhere real close. So, Niles is now looked on as the guru, and Kurlak is totally out of the game. If Niles makes some bearish calls on Intel in the future, I won't like it, but I'm not about to diss him and call him a moron.

Tony

Why it is that when an Analyst disses Intel he's a moron (Kurlak) and when he
recommends Intel he's hot. This bias alone should render any mention of an Analyst
here as moot.

Don't you see that when you screw up your advice as Kurlak did repeatedly, you get sacked and have to go to work for a failing firm like Tiger.
When you make clever and insightful recommendations you are the toast of the town. Recommending Intel this year has been to recommend one of the top performing companies in the world.
We are here chortling because we listen to no advice, but rely on the performance of an awesome company. Why are you here?

Jim - re:"when an Analyst disses Intel he's a moron (Kurlak)". Kurlak is a moron because he wasn't just wrong. He was dead wrong. Super wrong. He lost his clients money. He gave them bad advice. He didn't do his job for his clients. Niles has somewhat more credibility because he has been absolutely dead on with his predictions about Dell and Intel. In my book a good track record makes for someone you should at least listen to - a bad track record means that you probably shouldn't pay a hell of a lot of attention. Fleckenstein comes to mind. Short on Intel since 1995. Great advice, huh? Oh, by the way, Kurlak eventually got hurled off the roof at Merill Lynch after he was publicly described as a fool on Wall Street Week and then went on to make further wrong direction calls on Intel. THAT'S why no one in their right mind listens to Kurlak (or Elaine Garzireli or Joe Granville or ....)

Regards,
Burt

Oh, one more thing. When Niles last predicted that Intel might come in at the low end of their predicted range, though others panned his view, Paul thoughtfully posted that Niles was usually so close on his numbers for Intel that he probably had a mole in their finance dept. That's a far cry from calling him a moron.

Best regards,
Burt
