To add to your point, the city of Toronto uses more energy every summer on air conditioning than it does every winter on heating. An innovative company is spending big bucks to drill a tunnel well out into Lake Ontario to pull in bottom water to be used to cool the downtown core buildings. The temperature of that bottom water is around 35 degrees all year round! (And Lake Superior is colder!) As you note, a "swim" in that lake wouldn't last long.

I've lived on the shore all my adult life. My kids were taught about hypothermia before they could swim and they learned that "early" (g)
