Dear Nancy, when you mentioned Psalm 43, where David is struggling with depression,
it made me think of the two scriptures below;

Scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps or
a good man someone would even dare to die. But God
demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we
were still sinners, Christ died for us.
(Romans 5:7-8)

I think there are many Christians who may be depressed because even though they know that Christ died for their sins and they are forgiven, they struggle with forgiving themselves for regrets of the past. If only I did this, if only I did that, etc. But Jesus has wiped the slate clean. I experienced this myself. I had a lot of guilt about the past, I should have been a better parent, student, friend,etc. But the Holy Spirit revealed to me that those chains of bondage had been broken, and by the grace of God and the blood of Jesus, I had been set free. And there was no need for me to keep punishing myself.

"I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for
My own sake; And I will not remember your sins".

(Isaiah 43:25)

In Christ,

Lewis
