Taiwan Election

I have posed this question over at the G&K thread, but no one picked up the topic. So let's see if we have any interest in discussing it here.

Taiwan just elected a pro-independence candidate for its president. China has warned it will not hesitate to start a war if Taiwan does not enter reunification talks. With this election, I think the chances of such talks are slim to none.

In the long run, the war will not be good for China. So I doubt it will seriously pursue it. But in the short run, this kind of talk and tension could be devastating to the market. What will it do to the market in the next week, next several weeks?

I just want to see if average investors (not that we are average investors here) will take this news item seriously.

Seldom,

Thanks for your input, but geez...you've already got me into spreads!

Like your idea for in the money options. Why not go for Jan 01 130's? Paying a bit less for time value.
