Anyer: <There are no poor people in the USA>. Surely you jest! You can certainly disagree with the article's premise; and there are many poor people in foreign lands. But there are an awful lot of poor people in this country too. Having enough to eat...perhaps being overweight...isn't the best indicator of the those who may be poor. There's real need all over the planet...many are children. "Choose and share" is a fair motto...especially if you can. (Lee)

Anyer, No poor people in USA????You need to come to work with me daily and talk to elders (80-90 yrs old) in San Francisco who have lived in an an apartment for 30 years and are now homeless because their building was sold and they can't afford to rent even a hotel room with roaches..and they're not overweight..stereotype...

Anyer: Another thing you might consider; body weight is often a function of genetics and a country's diet. Thin people in India, and many far-Eastern countries may be thin because of what they eat...or may be "forced " to eat...to survive. There aren't that many MacDonald's in Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines pushing Big Mac's. Nor are there many corner convenience stores where the folks can load up on Twinkies, Ring-Dings, and fatty foods. Perhaps a session with the Doc will help. (Lee)

Premise is valid. There are too many poor in this nation of extreme "wealth". That's the problem. I doubt it will change, regardless of how much is given to charity.

Americans a bunch of fatcats... I would agree with you on that but certainly not an accurate judge of who is "poor" You are neglecting to take into consideration cultural differences which have an impact on lifestyle, diet, etc etc etc...

Cetainly we have poor in america- I would suggest you take the time to go to your local homeless shelter and spend some time talking to some of the people down there or better yet go out on the street and talk to some of those refused from the homeless shelter because there were no beds...

But i agree with you on one thing those other countries do not even have shelters, soup kitchens, there are no aid programs ,no welfare, few if any place for them to turn when in need- I have traveled quite a bit and spent 10 years running my business out of Latin America- so I have seen both sides "the poor" of America and "the poor" of other countries- I suppose it is the "relativeness of the poor" for lack of a better way to put it- Our system is not 100% nor will it ever be and though we are able to provide many resources for those in need it is still lacking and there are many in this country who still fall under the category of "poor" whether judged by US standards or third world standards
