What's missing from that article is the notion that high grades or test scores equate to becoming a strong leader.

A study was presented in the Harvard Business Review about a year ago which followed Harvard Business school graduates 20 years after graduation. The students with only slightly above average grades were more likely to reach higher positions of leadership in corporate America then the other groups. Such traits as interpersonal skills, alliance building, commitment, integrity and teaming were cited as more important to achieving corporate positions of leadership.
