<<Did you really think she'd say anything worth hearing?>>

Gerald~~

Answer: No.

But believe it or not, I would have been quite satisfied if she had simply repeated the company's policy relating to this matter. (i.e.: not making any comment about the application process in order to avoid speculation on the stock.) Her response was kind of bush league.

We will have to see if this issue will have any effect on the stock now that more people will have had a chance to digest some of the info/rumours etc. over the weekend.

Cheers!

Gerry,

IR doesn't have to regurgitate just what's in press releases. They can disclose material that wasn't worthy of a press release, but still is disclosable.

I've called the IR departments of many companies and found out information that wasn't formally publicized, but was important none-the-less.

She'll only get into trouble if the information is classified or non-disclosable. Then, of course, that's a clear violation.

It's very easy for front-line IR people to just take the high-ground with standard "milk-toast" answers, because so many fact-findering callers are typically better than them at manipulating inexperienced IR people who have a conduit to public/investing functions. Since they then get "quoted out of context", they get into trouble.

However, seasoned and adept IR people (those who don't answer the phone or respond to email, but have BIG offices!!) are worth seeking out. Those are the same people that WS analysts get their information from.

It's rare we get to talk with them, but there are sometimes a lucky occasion!

Steve

Canadian Fund Manager Brian Acker (Acker Finely) appeared Friday AM on ROBTV and said that his firm has sold their entire position in JDSU (their largest holding in 1999)and have taken a position in SDLI.

Gerald,

Perhaps i over-reacted. It's just that since she does work for the Investors Relations department, i expected something slightly more diplomatic.

still...not as bad as when someone tried to get some info from Novartis and was pretty much told, Who are you that we should answer any of your questions?
