Well, at least he is going the right direction - he has the current and surface drift with him. He could bring an aircraft band handheld radio with him, but I doubt he is in any commercial lanes. We bring one when we are hunting in Alaska as a last resort if something bad happens. Even the big commercial jets are pretty good about helping you out and relaying info - the pilots know you are pretty much on your own. That is if the damn radio will reach 'em - they got to be pretty close (get up high on a hill and you can sometimes see over 250 miles, believe or not).
