Interesting development. My search comes up short on details but I think it is strictly an open interconnect for Motorola processors and DSPs for Networking.

One source, who requested anonymity, pointed to the political angle on RapidIO. "Motorola doesn't have an answer to InfiniBand." he said.

Networkers (like csco, nt and lu) utilizing MOT processors can continue using them in their network ICs in the future.
INTC is not the only processor company in the world, just the biggest.

DSPs are not exclusively used in cell phones.

Where are the damned RIO White Papers?
