Yes, I'm well versed in the ATIN and function of the OSI layers, and yes I can distinguish what a 'switch' and a 'router' are. Its not that the marketing people has confused the two but rather the differences between them are blurring. Yes, layer 3 switching is a hardware implementation but also I'm not the one confusing terminology. I know what each layer is responsible for...I work with it daily. My post was just to correct your erroneous post citing port delivery as a layer 3 function...alas, it is not. Also your comment , "...while routing is more software based." Yes, in the firmware and installed software but usually on a separate piece of hardware, sometimes even a multi-homed box.
