Taipei stocks dropped by 3.5% early, at which point trading halted (the temporary limit in place until April 1st, normal limit is 7%). Trading is halted whenever the limit is reached. This tends to give people time to assess data and react more rationally.

I think everything depends on how the mainland responds. If they respond rationally to Chen's peace overtures, I think this will all blow over very quickly, and it's back to business as usual.

It's kind of Scary that so much of the nasdaq SemiCons' fortunes depends on just one country --- Taiwan.

The other smaller countries in the region do not exert the same influence on semicons as taiwan. The fabs for almost all asics and most flashram are in taiwan.

I guess the world isn't ending.
