Why do you think the brokerages have been frantically raising their marging requirements over the last week or so on momo tech stocks? They've been tipped off in advance that the fed is raising the margin requirements. Greenspan is trying to get as many existing investors off margin BEFORE the hammer comes down. He doesnt want to see forced panic selling that would collapse the market.. So hopefully (for him) the brokerages have already done some of the dirty work and cleared out the worst of the deadbeats..
