Prince George's County, Maryland, the adjacent county in which I largely was raised, is slightly more than 50% black, and fairly wealthy. It is the largest, wealthiest mostly black jurisdiction in the country. One of the interesting things is that conflict between lower class blacks and upper middle class blacks has occasionally arisen that would, in other contexts, have been interpreted as racism. Instead, it has reflected fear of crime and vandalism, a desire to maintain common areas in good condition, and the fear of having their own kids mixed up in gangs.......
