ELON--Union Bank of Estonia's LONWORKS Based System Named 'Best Automation Project of the Year'; Echelon Brings Networking Technology to Everyday Devices Worldwide BUSINESS WIRE - March 20, 2000 08:29 PALO ALTO, Calif., Mar 20, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Echelon (Nasdaq:ELON) today announced that the Estonian Systems Engineering Society (ESIS) has named the new Union Bank of Estonia office building, and its LONWORKS(R) based control network, the "Best Automation Project of Year 2000."
ESIS stated that the control system represents the best example of a building automation application in the market. Ecomatic, Ltd., an Echelon Authorized Network Integrator, coordinated the automation system. Ecomatic received additional honors from the ESIS for another LONWORKS based project, the renovated passenger terminal at Tallinn Airport.
"The LONWORKS network was our first choice for this project, as it offered the most flexible, simple and reliable solution," stated Vaino Parnaste, President of Ecomatic, Ltd. "Because it is an open, interoperable standard, the LONWORKS system allows us to expand and modify the Union Bank of Estonia's system as needed into the future. Ecomatic is committed to bringing Estonia the best, most sophisticated automation solutions available, and we rely on Echelon and LONMARK(R) certified products to provide us with the infrastructure necessary to accomplish this goal. This award acknowledges that we've selected the right infrastructure."
The 24-story Union Bank of Estonia office building is presently the largest building in the small Baltic country of Estonia. Ecomatic's integrated automation system controls the building's indoor climate, lighting, heating cables in the roof's drainage system, water leakage detection system, and drainage pump controls.
"It is wonderful to have LONWORKS solutions recognized for excellence around the globe," stated Beatrice Yormark, Echelon's vice president of sales and marketing. "It is gratifying to see that Estonia has recognized the advantages that LONWORKS networks provide in terms of energy efficiency and cost effectiveness. This is a perfect example of how emerging markets and rebuilding countries can use the LONWORKS system to leapfrog into the 21st century, networking everyday devices in any application, anywhere around the globe."
Founded in 1993, the ESIS is a volunteer non-profit organization for computer, control, and systems engineers. For more information, please visit the ESIS web site at dcc.ttu.ee.
